Hello! A lot of bugs were reported with the gender-swap feature, so I’ve decided to release a new build that resolves those issues.
I usually share fan art in my blog posts, but today, I’d like to share the new warning screen that will be displayed before starting a new Custom Mode play-through:
Please be aware of this information! A lot of players have been commenting, “My Custom Mode data disappeared after I updated the game!” and I don’t want people to keep losing their progress.
(I’ve also included a “README.txt” file in the same directory as the Yandere Simulator executable with similar information to prevent people from losing their save data. Please give that a read, too!)
Improvements
- The game was updated with the ability to change the genders of rivals and suitors, allowing the player to potentially design male rivals with male suitors and female rivals with female suitors. However, the Matchmaking scripts were still expecting rivals to be female and suitors to be male, so the Matchmaking elimination didn’t work if the rival was male or the suitor was female. Those scripts have been updated, and it is now possible to matchmake rivals and suitors no matter what combination of genders is involved (male/female, female/male, male/male, or female/female).
- At the Senpai Customization screen, the player is given the option of skipping past Senpai Customization and going straight to the intro cutscene, or skipping past customization+intro+tutorial+scheming and going straight to the Calendar screen. However, there was really no way for the player to know how much was going to be skipped by choosing those options, so an “Are you sure?” confirmation window has been added that spells out exactly what the player will be skipping past by choosing either option.
- Previously, if you adjusted the volume of the game’s music in the Audio Settings menu, the game would forget about your settings as soon as you exited school. This is no longer the case; the game will now always remember what volume settings you prefer, and carry them over to the next day.
- Updated the warning screen at the end of the Custom Mode menu to use stronger wording and make it abundantly clear what steps to follow in order to make sure that your Custom Mode data carries over to future builds of the game.
- Previously, I tried to increase the character limit of a Custom Mode character’s bio from 150 characters to 200 characters. It didn’t work previously, but it should work now!
- Added a “README” text file next to the game’s executable. Please read it so that you don’t wind up in a situation where you’ve lost your save data or custom mode data!
- The white-and-gold “planters” on the school rooftop (the ones that replaced the grey water tanks that used to be on the rooftop) are now using better 3D models.
- Because Honami is a shy character, she now performs the “meek, timid” variation of the “waving hello” animation when she sees you after you’ve befriended her.
- Certain textures – the blackboards and some of the small lockers – now have better-looking, higher-resolution textures.
Fixed
- In 202X Mode, the Photography Club becomes interested in investigating murders at school when School Atmosphere drops low enough. As part of their investigation, they create a mock “crime scene” in the corner of their room. However, the 1980s Mode Photography Club isn’t meant to share this treat, so that crime scene will no longer appear in 1980s Mode when school atmosphere drops below a certain threshold.
- In Custom Mode, if the player made their Senpai female and then eliminated their rival in a way that would make Senpai perform a “disgusted” or “crying” animation in the End-of-Day sequence, the End-of-Day sequence would get stuck and would never proceed. This bug has been fixed.
- When starting a new Custom Mode save file, the game would not properly initialize the player’s inventory, leading to the player having certain items in their possession that they weren’t supposed to have without purchasing them from a store. This bug has been fixed.
- Apparently, any attempt to matchmake any rival was failing. I can’t replicate this bug, so I must have fixed it while I was implementing the “any combination of rival/suitor genders can confess” feature. If you were encountering this bug, it should be fixed now!
- If a delinquent discovered that the player was a murderer and began chasing the player, and then a teacher discovered that the player was a murderer, the teacher would never chase the player, even if the delinquent died. This bug has been fixed.
- In Custom Mode, the “Randomize” feature and the “Change Student’s Persona / Strength” feature wouldn’t work if the player’s cursor was highlighting (or had previously been highlighting) a greyed-out menu option. This bug has been fixed.
- If the player created a new Custom Mode play-through and activated the “Student Council Does Not Shove Player” option, it would only work if the student council was male, and not if they were female. This bug has been fixed.
- If the player got bruised by the delinquents or lowered their sanity, wore a raincoat, and then removed the raincoat, the bruises on their face / “low sanity shadow” on their face would disappear. This bug has been fixed.
- Shinako Bunzai, the leader of the newspaper club in 1980s Mode, was supposed to use a unique walking animation to give her more personality. She lost this animation during a recent update. I’ve restored it to her.
- When a suitor approached the girl that he had a crush on, he would sometimes enter the “admiring girl” state even though the girl was not within view and was on a floor above/below him. This bug has been fixed.
- In 1980s Mode, one of the delinquent girls had difficulty pathfinding to her “sit down and eat lunch” spot in Weeks 3 and 4. This should no longer be the case.
- A debug command was left in the game that allowed you to increment Senpai’s “Curiosity in his secret admirer” by pressing the “Z” key. This bug has been fixed.
- If the player tried to enter an “Offer Help” conversation with a male rival, the conversation would freeze and would never advance. This bug has been fixed.
- In Custom Mode, if the player assigned a male student the “Sleep” action, they would be unable to perform the intended animation. This bug has been fixed.
- If the player beat 1980s Mode, watched the credits, and then tried to load a 202X save file, they would be sent to 1980s Mode. This bug has been fixed.
- From now on, even if the Light Music Club shuts down, the 4 former members of the Light Music Club will still perform with Ai on the gym stage.
- Some combinations of student + gender + eyewear would prevent the game from loading into the school scene properly. This bug has been fixed.
- Fixed problem with Kiba’s hair model that would cause her forehead to clip through her hair when she was making certain facial expressions.
- The footstep sound effects in the Announcement Room (and its little “podcast room”) were incorrect. This bug has been fixed.
- If the player reported a corpse to a teacher, the protagonist would fly up into the ceiling. This bug has been fixed.
- Due to a bug, it became impossible to exit Cinematic Camera Mode. This bug has been fixed.
- Fixed a typo in Ai Doruyashi’s diary entry.
