There are a few characters in Yandere Simulator who I’ve written an elaborate backstory for…but there will probably never be any way for the player to learn the details of that character’s life in-game.
If I care about a character enough, I’ll work together with an artist to create art for a “Backstory Video” that tells you all of the information about that character that will never be divulged in-game…but might be relevant in certain weeks.
The first character who is going to get this treatment is Akane Toriyasu!
Before you say, “Grr! I’m so mad that you spent your time working on this video instead of making progress towards the next rival!” let me show you something:
Yes, that’s right – I first began requesting the storyboard sketches for this video way back in December of 2024! The artwork came in at a very slow pace; sometimes, multiple months would pass between illustrations. This project did not steal hundreds of hours of development time away from the main game; it was a fun little diversion that made progress once every few months…and now it is finally complete. Don’t worry; the process of recording the narration and editing the entire video only took a couple of hours.
“Will Aoi, Shiromi, and Kuroko also have backstory videos?”
Well, it’s really difficult to encounter an artist who is willing to create 60+ colored illustrations for free. A lot of artists say, “I’ll do it!” and then disappear after only making one or two frames. I do have ideas for other backstory videos / lore videos – including videos about other members of the student council – but whether or not those videos ever come into existence mostly depends on other people; not on me.
Anyway, now that the Akane video is out, I’ll return my full attention to working on the game!
