I spent the majority of the previous 2 weeks working on the minigame that I released for the Halloween Spooktacular. As a result, the latest new build doesn’t have a tremendous amount of new content compared to the previous build. However, I did fix some pretty severe bugs, so I’m releasing an update anyway.
To read a list of everything that was changed / fixed in the latest build, scroll down this artwork by mimiartlovur of a subtly intimidating Ryoba holding an adorable tiny Ayano!
The art is from a short-but-cute comic, and you can see it here!
Changes
It wasn’t clear how to make the game use CustomPortrait.png as the protagonist’s portrait, so the instructions written on the image have been updated; open “CustomPortrait.txt” and change 0 to 1 to make the game use CustomPortrait.png as the protagonist’s portrait.
It’s not possible to report your rival to the counselor after 3:30 PM. So, the “Expel Rival” Schemes can no longer be purchased or activated after 3:30 PM on any given day.
Senpai’s “reacting to the food that he made” event now has a “Spy Prompt” nearby so that you can watch the animation more closely.
Added a new prop in the Drama Clubroom to honor someone who has supported the game’s development substantially.
Updated Amai’s “mystery portrait” – the portrait that represents her before she appears at school on Week 2.
It is now possible to access the Schemes menu from the Schedule menu in Week 2.
Fixes
If the police were called to school to investigate a murder, but couldn’t catch the player, and then the player got a game over anyway because 50% of the school’s population was dead, Ayano would appear at the “Heartbroken” game over screen performing the “mwa ha ha, I got away with murder!” animation. This bug has been fixed.
If the player selected a hardware item to bring to school, went to school, then returned to the title screen, then loaded their save file, then went back to school without choosing to bring anything with them, the hardware item from the previous playthrough would appear at school. this bug has been fixed.
Some of Osana’s expulsion elimination methods wouldn’t work if the player didn’t follow the Schemes exactly. This is no longer the case; the player can now “freestyle it” and get Osana expelled without doing exactly what the Schemes say, in the exact order the Schemes provide instructions.
If the player befriended a student at school and then went to the Student Info menu, entered a different student’s profile, and tried to navigate to the profile of the student they just befriended, the student’s profile would never show up. This bug has been fixed.
If a rival was splashed with water while accepting food from a member of the Cooking Club, the rival would enter a glitched half-splashed, half-interacting-with-food state. This bug has been fixed.
If the player played the game using a Sony controller and the “Evidence Warning” pop-up displayed onscreen, the button prompts for “Yes” and “No” would be identical. This bug has been fixed.
If the player pushed a student off the rooftop but did not leave a suicide note, the end-of-day text would still describe a suicide note being present. This bug has been fixed.
If the player activated the “Censor Weapons” option and then picked up the circular saw, the blade of the saw would be uncensored. This bug has been fixed.
If the player attempted to access the Schemes menu from the Schedule menu, the game would fail to load the Schemes menu properly. This bug has been fixed.
If the player used a Sony controller to navigate the Yakuza interface, the button prompts for “Yes” and “No” would be identical. This bug has been fixed.
Some of Osana’s Expel Schemes only worked on specific days of the week, instead of being compatible with any day of the week. These bugs have been fixed.
Due to a bug, the gardening club students weren’t performing their “living security camera” animations in the correct locations. This bug has been fixed.
If the player played the game using a Sony controller, button prompts within the protagonist’s home would not be correct. This bug has been fixed.
In Custom Mode, the sabotaged version of the Thursday after-school event was completely broken. It is now fixed.
Due to a bug, delinquents’ hair models were not visible in the beat-em-up minigame. This bug has been fixed.
Fixed a typo in the guidance counselor’s menu text.
By the way…
I always feel super guilty for taking any amount of time away from Yandere Sim, but there’s something coming up soon that I absolutely *must* take a couple of days off for:
On November 4th, I will take a day off to stream Ocarina of Time for the N64, and on November 5th, I will again take another day off to stream the Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2.
I know, it’s horrible timing – immediately after giving the game less of my time and releasing a small update, I’m going to take two days off. Not a great combo. However, I absolutely must to make an exception for this game. I’ve been praying for years for Ocarina of Time to get a remake, and it’s FINALLY HAPPENING, so I simply must step away from development for a little bit.
