May 14th Update

Hello! I have a new build for you today!

To read a list of everything that was added or changed or fixed or improved in the latest update, please scroll down past this fan-made video:

(I understand that this is a parody of a pre-existing animation, but I still respect the massive amount of time and work that goes into creating a video like this one! I really love it when fans produce things like this!)

One More Fan-Made Video

Can’t resist sharing just one more with you before we move on to the rest of the blog post!

Okay! Now, let’s move on.

New Voice Lines

The sabotaged variant of the Wednesday Lunch “Amai and Senpai discuss how the flatbread turned out” event now has animations and voiced lines:

(Also, Senpai now has voiced lines when he’s making flatbread and reacting to how the flatbread turned out.)

A completely different character also got voiced lines in this new build, as well…

The owner of the rival bakery now has voiced lines! I’m super happy with the actress’ performance; she absolutely nailed it!

New Cooking Animation

When all of the Cooking Club’s models were updated and the refrigerator model was swapped out for a new one, the old “Preparing Octodogs” animation broke, so it was removed from the game. Even though it was one of the crappiest and ugliest animations in the game (I made it) a handful of players actually reached out to express that they were sad it was gone, and asked if it could ever be restored to the game.

Well, I’ve decided to replace the old “Preparing Octodogs” animation with a new one that I think is a million times better than the old one:

Looks great, doesn’t it?!

Now, I’m sure that someone is going to say, “Hey, this doesn’t make any sense! Why is Ayano whisking a mystery substance and brewing a mystery stew? Octodogs are made by cutting sausages and then heating them up! Whisking and stewing aren’t part of the process!” Well, I have four things to say:

  1. First off, this is you.
  2. Maybe Ayano is making some extra-special octodogs that are boiled in a special stew that is only created by whisking…something. You don’t know for a fact what kind of process is necessary to make these specific octodogs!
  3. I wanted a cooking animation that featured generic cooking actions; not an extremely accurate animation for the act of making octodogs specifically.
  4. There’s a possibility that this “generic cooking actions” cutscene will be transplanted into the Home Scene and displayed when the player prepares breakfast in the morning. In this case, a proper “making octodogs” animation would be created for the School Scene.

(Before anyone can say it…yes, this animation was inspired by an animation from the latest Pokémon game. However, it’s clearly not a 1-to-1 imitation, and I think it’s got enough original elements to be considered unique.)

In any event, I think it’s cute, and I like it a lot! I hope you like it, too!

Changes / Improvements

  • The protagonist can only successfully win a physical struggle against a teacher if the protagonist is holding a light weapon, such as a knife. The protagonist can’t win a physical struggle while holding a large and heavy weapon, such as a fire extinguisher. If the protagonist attacked a teacher with a large weapon while a short weapon was in the protagonist’s inventory, the protagonist would automatically take out their short weapon, and then the teacher would counter the attack. This confused players, who thought they were only being countered because the game glitched and took out the wrong weapon. To avoid any confusion, from now on, I will not make the protagonist switch from a heavy weapon to a light weapon. From this build onward, when you attack a teacher with a heavy weapon, you’ll see the heavy weapon remain in the protagonist’s hand when she is countered and apprehended by the teacher.
  • If the player looked at the student profile of any of the “Bullies,” the bully’s profile would say that the student was not part of any group. This was inaccurate, since the bullies are clearly in a group together. However, they wouldn’t be called “The Bullies” or “The Mean Girls” by anyone at school. Instead, their student profile will refer to them as being “The Popular Girls.”
  • Previously, if the player set up a tripwire trap to splash liquid on Osana, Raibaru would warn Osana about it, and the trap wouldn’t work. Raibaru will now only warn Osana about the trap if she smells gasoline or blood; Raibaru won’t suspect that anything is wrong if the trap is full of water.
  • When in town, the game now plays a different audio track when the player is in the “industrial district” of the town. The current track is a placeholder; I just wanted to get the functionality in.
  • Students who are reacting to a stink bomb will now perform a “covering nose to avoid smelling a bad odor” pose while running away.
  • A new “If you’re planning to upload this game to YouTube, I got some bad news for you…” screen has been added to the game.
  • During the Senpai customization sequence, the UI elements now fades in / fades out faster than they previously did.
  • All of the screens before the title screen now fade in/out at 2x their previous speed.
  • The Drama Club Leader’s voice lines were too quiet, so I’ve boosted their volume.
  • It is now possible for male students to sunbathe in Custom Mode.
  • Ayano now has hair physics in the intro cutscene.

Fixes

  • If a student has been assigned the “Stalk” destination/action, they will stalk the player, but if the player approaches, they run away. Their instructions were to run to the fountain in the school, but if the player was in the plaza, to run somewhere else. They were not following these instructions properly; this bug has been fixed.
  • If the player was apprehended by a group of students while next to a wall, some of those students would be unable to reach their intended position around the player, and their animation would de-synchronize from the player’s animation. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player looked inside of a clubroom from outdoors, the clubroom would not be rendered. This was unintentional; if the player looked inside of a clubroom, the player was supposed to see the back side of the clubroom’s curtains. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player used a stink bomb to scare away the students in Amai’s Wednesday cooking event, their running animation would not display properly, and the subtitles would imply that they were choosing to ignore the smell. These bugs have been fixed.
  • The game was not correctly applying teachers’ face textures, and they were all using the default face texture. This bug has been fixed. (It’s really only noticeable for one teacher, who has a beauty mark on her face, and nobody else.)
  • The game had some code to disable a student’s hair physics if they were so far from the player that the player wouldn’t be able to notice. However, a bug was preventing this code from always being active. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player unlocked Osana or Amai’s “Dark Secret” and then used the Reset Week feature, the rivals’ dark secrets would remain unlocked instead of reverting to an unlocked state. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player splashed Osana with water while she was walking to her Friday lunchtime event, she would not properly exit the event and would enter a glitched state. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player received a “group takedown” game over and then exited that screen, there was a possibility that the “fade to black” would not appear properly. This bug has been fixed.
  • If a locker is empty, its outline is supposed to be blue. If a locker has a corpse in it, its outline is supposed to be orange. This functionality broke. It has now been restored.
  • If the player was apprehended by a teacher, entered the Heartbroken screen, and then tried to exit that screen, the screen would not “fade out” properly. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player tried to gossip to a bully about one of her friends, she would describe the friend as her “clubmate” instead of her friend. This oversight has been corrected.
  • The “Blur killing animations” and “Hide killing animations” features did not work when Ayano was being stabbed to death by Nemesis. These oversights have been corrected.
  • The “hide killing animations” censorship option was not censoring the animation that plays when you win a struggle against a hero or a teacher. This bug has been fixed.
  • One of the 1980s Mode Sports Club characters’ hair model would clip through the back of her head when she was changing her shoes. This oversight has been corrected.
  • If a member of the Photography Club was dismembered, their accessory (a camera) would float in front of their dismembered torso. This bug can no longer happen.
  • If the player learned a rival’s dark secret and then opened her profile while at home, the rival’s dark secret would not be displayed. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player accepted Budo’s Task and then ended the school day, Budo’s Task would become impossible to complete on subsequent days. This bug has been fixed.
  • All “Custom Hair” hairstyles were simultaneously active on Ayano’s head in the stalker house and rival bakery stealth missions. This bug has been fixed.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player designed a female student council member, a male voice would still come out of her. This oversight has been corrected.
  • Pippi Osu was supposed to have short white socks, but, due to a bug, the white socks weren’t showing up. This bug has been fixed.
  • Parts of Dafuni and Beruma’s hair models did not properly have hair physics applied. This oversight has been corrected.
  • There was a tiny bald spot on top of Osana’s head after she changed her hairstyle. This oversight has been corrected.
